Senior Insights Manager, Category Insights

Target is an iconic brand, a Fortune 50 company and one of America’s leading retailers.

A role on the Enterprise Insights team means being a champion for our current and future guests, and inspiring the organization to act in their best interest. Here, you will solve diverse, complex challenges that help the entire enterprise seize our most valuable and important opportunities.  You will distill relevant information into insights and implications that answer the ever-critical question:  “So what?”  Your influence will help spark original ideas and actionable strategies at the enterprise level, setting a clear foundation of information and insight with context and clarity that all teams can use to apply to their own business objectives.

The Category Insights team within Enterprise Insights focuses on understanding consumer behaviors, attitudes, needs, and motivations across Target’s core businesses – Apparel & Accessories, Home, Electronics/Toys/Entertainment, Beauty, Food & Beverage and Essentials – and all seasonal holidays. We consult with Merchants and Marketers, providing understanding, empathy, and insight of our guests and consumers in the development of business and communication strategies. We leverage primary, secondary, syndicated and internal sales data to paint a clear picture of what our guests are doing and why, and where the greatest opportunity spaces lie for the businesses.  We translate enterprise-wide insights, like macro trends, to the business categories. And we provide clear recommendations for where and how strategies need to adjust based on what we are constantly learning about our guests.  At our best, we are re-framing how our partners think about the challenges and opportunities facing their businesses based on deep and differentiated insights.

For the Senior Insights Manager role, we are seeking a highly strategic, creative, and motivated right- and left-brain thinker who is looking to join a dynamic team. The right fit will be a naturally curious, inspiring, fun individual who has a passion for understanding ever-changing human behavior. Someone who brings an interest in and wide range of research skills/aptitude – including qualitative, quantitative, cultural insights, data fluency and passionate storytelling. You will lead a variety of complex insights projects that include leveraging syndicated, secondary and sales data, as well as conducting qualitative and quantitative primary research, in partnership with research agencies and internal partners. We are seeking someone who is comfortable working in all stages of the research process – including knowledge gap analysis, crafting learning agendas, drafting project RFPs and questionnaires/research protocols, interpretation and meaning making, strategic implications, story-driven deliverables, and immersive learning sessions for key internal partners. Someone with the proven ability to deliver high-quality outputs amidst the dynamic nature of workload and pace inherent in retail will be a great fit in this role.

  • Minimum of 5+ years consumer insights experience
  • Well-versed in designing and leading a broad array of mixed methodology insights/strategy research projects
  • Significant experience with different methods of quantitative and qualitative research
  • Experience analyzing syndicated and secondary data sources, as well as macro trend analysis
  • Strong understanding of what a great insight looks like and how to get there
  • Strategic thinker who can turn insights into implications for a business or marketing strategy
  • Strong collaborator who can effectively influence a diverse set of stakeholders both horizontally and vertically
  • Comfortable collaborating and seeking alignment with others who may have different perspectives and information processing styles
  • Demonstrated comfort and openness with adapting or pivoting when change is required and ability to thrive in ambiguous environments
